Sam is cute and why is Sookie so surprised?
The things Sookie listen in on around men is incredibly stereotype, almost even a bit condescending towards men, are they really that cliché, that trite. I love to think about sex and I don’t mind men doing also, we all do I guess, but are men more vulgar or disgusting, I don’t know. Just thinking here! Anyway, we all think a lot about sex, how is that surprising to Sookie, how is it a turn off and why is she so damn unlucky that the men she listen in on, every single one is so stupid or unfortunate on top of the (perhaps natural and healthy) obvious compulsive fondness of thinking about sex, tits and ass.
And why does she think that the minds of those she can’t read, is suddently clearer, purer or more noble. That’s just surprising to me, especially since she, of all people, really know what mens agenda is, without even one exception. That is a bit playing, if I close my eyes I’m invisible. Still I don’t know wheter to laugh or cry if we humans really are so simple, but I think I’m just going to embrace it, one can be simple on one level and then so much more on every other level. And that goes for all I think.
…wat?
You do get that Sam was deliberately creating chatter in his head so Sookie wouldn’t hear about Tara, right? He was making himself think about BOOBS BOOBS BOOBS BOOBS, that wasn’t a natural thought. The only thing Sookie seems surprised about is, oh, yeah, forgot I had these boobs. It’s okay girl, sometimes I forget I have boobs too.
Sookie only slightly hears more sex thoughts from men then from women, but that could be that she is a very attractive woman and it would be natural for many men to think sexual thoughts when she is in front of them. Because DAT ASS. And if the sex thoughts are crude…well, most people don’t write epic erotica in their heads all day. The world isn’t Tumblr.
And given Sookie’s past, I don’t find it surprising that she doesn’t like hearing herself being vulgarly objectified. She had to listen in on her molester’s thoughts as he was molesting her. I mean, cut her some fucking slack. Even if had never been molested, the constant ‘blah blah blah sex sex sex blah blah blah’ of everybody’s thoughts must really get on her nerves. It’s such a burden for her, and I think she handles it as well as can be expected.
I don’t think she truly believes minds she can’t hear (vamps) are purer or more noble. The only one she came close to treating that way was Bill, and she was heavily drugged by him. His blood in her worked it’s will on her, forcing her to like him, be attracted to him like a moth to a flame, drowning out whatever voice of reason she had. The fact that Sookie can hear what anyone is truly thinking has been detrimental in some ways, because I’m sure it hindered her ability to read people in other ways, she never had to learn to do it like everyone else. Combine that with being heavily drugged with a mind-influencing substance, and is it any wonder she always seemed to trust Bill beyond any reason?
Although I did appreciate the fact that the show acknowledged Sookie can read minds even if we the audience aren’t hearing what she’s hearing (her convo with Andy).
