I think there is so much more to Eric and Sam’s relationship than this. Sam felt quite comfortable coming to see him, Eric has Sam’s phone number, and then there’s the question of how Eric knew about the Rattray incident. Since Sam (or Dean) was the only other individual who witnessed the beating, it’s not hard to take that leap.

Yes, and also Eric is the Sheriff of the Area. Despite being just for the vamps, all Supes connect with each other.

A thing that bothers me is that: Sam SAW all the Rattray incident and don’t moved a finger in the time or after this. This is the main reason on why i don’t like Sam. His precious secret as a shifter is more important than the girl he claims to love. Just like Bill, but a dog.

Yeah, I’m kind of with you on the Rattray incident. Sam did watch Sookie get beat close to death. As a dog or changing back to a man, he could have done something. Granted, Mack had a gun, but to do nothing…something’s wrong with that, and I wonder if we’ll ever learn more about it. 

I might be mistaken, it’s been a while I since saw that episode, but I do believe that Sam, in dog form, did try to do something. He got viciously kicked for his troubles by the Male Rattray. He kind of flew through the air? Am I imagining this?

What I never understand with Sam is why, when he can shift into pretty much anything, does he not, in dire situations, shift into a giant-ass bear or something and just cream the enemy?

I’m sorry, was somebody calling forth a champion to defend the barwench known as Samwise Merlotte?

The Rattray beating: Sam was in his trailer when it first started, which isn’t that close to the road, so he didn’t actually see most of the beating. The fight wasn’t that noisy at the start, Sookie wasn’t able to cry out or do more than grunt in pain, so he probably didn’t even hear it at first. It was only when Mac Rattray started howling and Sookie was able to shriek out that Sam could have heard it. And he showed up right after that.  Collie!Sam was growling and took a fighting stance (some mistake the crouching for submission, but spreading the front legs out and lowering the head is an aggressive posture for a dog…or play posture, but somehow I doubt Collie!Sam was asking Mac to throw the ball c’mon throw the ball throw it throw it ball ball ball ball). I don’t really doubt he would have gone after Mac, gun or no gun, there’s no way Sam would allow them to beat Sookie to death or be too scared to do anything. But then Bill saw that Sam (whom he knew was a shifter) was about to spoil his brilliant plan and intervened.

Letting Bill take her: Collie!Sam was walking straight to Sookie when she passed out, whining. Sam can see how badly she is hurt, and knows she’s going to die very soon. Sam might already know what vampire blood can heal or maybe Bill told him, but either way, it was the only real option they had to save Sookie’s life. I have no doubt Collie!Sam was lurking in those bushes, watching Bill the whole time he was healing her. During season 1, Collie!Sam was shown time and time again keeping an eye on Sookie, especially when Bill was around (saving Bill from the Rattrays, the night he came calling, the night Gran was murdered, the night of the funeral, and then throughout like, all of the last three episodes). If he was determined to watch Bill when he was just taking Sookie out for a walk, then there’s no way he wouldn’t have watched him when he carts off a bleeding and unconscious Sookie into the Sugar Cane Thicket Where Terrible Abusive Relationships Are Born (Crystal took Jason to the same Thicket early on, in a recreation of Bill and Sookie’s Thicket Time). 

The reason Ball wouldn’t have shown Sam actually watching them is that at the time he didn’t want to give the audience any overt indications that Bill’s actions that night were at all suspicious. He’s trying to bamboozle the audience along with Sookie, and does a very good job of it too.

Why didn’t Sam say anything afterwards: As far as Sam knew, there was nothing to say. Even if Sam knew vamp blood would heal from Bill, I doubt Bill told him any of the other side effects, he didn’t even tell Sookie. To Sam, it was over and done, and he just has to try to keep Sookie away from Bill. There was no need, in his mind, for him to tell Sookie he was a shifter. But he certainly wouldn’t have sacrificed Sookie’s life to keep his secret. I actually think he was hoping Sookie would just hear it one day, so he didn’t have to say the words. That’s not exactly a brave way to go about revealing your dark secret, but its an understandable one. It’s like coming out of the closet; even if you have reason to believe that those dear to you would be cool with it, it is really difficult for some people to admit it out loud for the first time.

Why doesn’t Sam just change into a lion and eat people’s faces off: shifter science has been pretty well established that the shifter has to imprint on an actual living animal before they can shift into it. Well, why doesn’t he just go to a zoo and stare at lions and bears and shit? That’s an awesome suggestion, and maybe Sam has. But imprints might also have an expiry date, since just about everytime a shifter has shifted into anything other than their go-to shift (Dean for Sam, PIIIIG! for Daphne, Growlypants for Tommy), they’ve had to look at the animal recently. Exceptions are the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magical moment in season 4 (although maybe they did all go and stare at some horse before they went to group therapy) and Sam turning into an exotic Brahma Bull (explainable if you subscribe to sunny’s theory about the season 2 finale bullshit). Or maybe Sam just doesn’t know how to shift right, he wasn’t raised by shifters he had to figure this stuff out on his own.

Eric and Sam are the founding members of the Bill Compton Sucks And Is A Mendacious Sadistic Asshole And Has Stupid Hair Forever And Should Be Driven Out Of Bon Temps With Sticks Of Varying Sizes, Driven Far Far Away From The Beautiful Very Pretty Sassy Seraphic Siren Sookie Stackhouse, Who Is Very Pretty And Smells Very Nice And Is The Best Waitress That Ever Waitressed And Who Should Hug People More Often Society: Oh, they totally are, and I’ve no doubt that Sam was the one to tell Eric about Bill, at least by the time Dawn was killed. I mean, c’mon, vampire shows up to town on a Monday, and by Friday, two fangbangers are dead, two drainers are dead, and one telepath had the shit beat out of her and pumped full of Bill’s rabies-infected blood. You don’t have to be Columbo to figure out that shenanigans are afoot.

I would not be at all surprised to find out that Sam called Eric before Sookie and Bill showed up at Fangtasia that night and was all “What the fuck, Sheriff McSheriffyfangs? When are you gonna stop this fangbanger killer?” and then Ginger would have been all “Waht?” and Sam would have been all “Put Eric on the fucking phone!” and then Eric would have gotten on the fucking phone “I am here, Lassie” and Sam would have been all like “Lassie was a bitch, dumbass!” and Eric would have been all like “I know.” and then Sam would have been all like “Fangbanger killer! Whattaya doing about it!” and Eric would have been all “WTF?” and Sam would have been all like “Your boy Bill Compton hasn’t told you about that?” and Eric would be all like “BILL COMPTON?! *Swedish swearing*” and then Pam would have overheard him and been all “FUCK! Not that guy I hate that guy I want to burn his face off with silver mace daddy, can I burn off his face with silver mace, daddy, can I?” and Eric would have been all like “Anything for my little girl” and then Sam would have been really uncomfortable and tried to get back on the subject and then told Eric everything and Eric would make those little growls and shit and learn all about the shenanigans that be afoot, and he and Pam would have been on the lookout for the Queen’s procurer to see what fuckery he’s committing now, and maybe save his latest target from ending up like the rest of QSA’s slaves cause they’re just Big Damn Heropires like that, and they’d do it anyway just to fuck with Bill and if a pretty maid is grateful for being rescued from the Dreaded Dragon of Douchebaggeria, well, that’s just blood on the icing on the cake. 

(Also, I think Bill’s blood gave Sam rabies like it gave Sookie rabies, and his ‘memories’ of his murdering jewel thief past are just the fever dreams born out of tainted douchey rabid vamp-blood, and he never did any of that, because its beyond stupid to settle down in the town you just murdered people in, and Bill fucked with his head to drive him nuts and take him out of the picture, because Sam was in the way of getting Sookie and Bill doesn’t tolerate obstacles in his way of his trophy fairy.)
