Since we’ve been talking about season 1 lately…

Please correct me if I’m wrong/I have my facts mixed up, but what’s up with this?

There’s a serial killer running around this extremely small town in which it is very hard to keep any gossip-type secrets (i.e. who’s dating who, what they’ve been doing, who’s vacationing where), and said serial killer’s victims have all had two things in common: they were women with fangmarks somewhere on their bodies.

This news directly involves Sookie because of her brother being suspected, so she’s well informed of these facts, to the point where she actually decides to go visit a local vampire bar in search of clues to clear her brother’s name.

At the same time, information of her dating “Vampire Bill”, as he’s known to the town, is spreading like wildfire. This is also evident to Sookie as she can read people’s judgemental thoughts.

As her relationship grows with Bill, she keeps him informed of everything she knows.

Then Bill decides to bite Sookie during sex, not bothering to heal the fang marks. Nevermind that she’s a waitress in the most frequented eatery in the whole town- the same town that has a serial killer that targets women with fangmarks lurking about.

Beel logic?

That’s been discussed before at length. The nougat of the matter is that Bill is a douchecanoe.

Bill deliberately left the fangmarks on Sookie (he knew how to heal them, as was shown later), to both isolate her from her friends and family, and put her in danger (so she would seek both his protection and his blood if she’s injured). He wanted her to be targeted by the fangbanger killer, so that he could rescue her again (as with the Ratts). In fact, the whole fangbanger killer storyline makes much more sense if Bill orchestrated the whole thing (either by killing them all himself, or glamouring Rene to kill some of them). Bill has no alibi for Maudette/Dawn/Gran, although Rene does have one for Maudette (he was with Arlene’s kids). Memories can be glamoured into someone, after all.

Alan Ball was quite smart in waiting until season 3 to show that Bill knew full well how to heal bitemarks (as evidenced in the Shower Abomination), and made the ~~premedicated~~ premeditated decision to be a dick and not actually heal them. His douchebaggery was revealed in hindsight. I think his douchebaggery will continue to be revealed in hindsight.
